The History of the Skyline GT-R
1st Generation (1957-1963)
June 1957 the first Skyline is released by Prince Motor Co
Cassis ALSI-1, Engine GA30 OHV (1484cc) about 60hp @4400rpm.
October 1959 the ALSI Skyline upgrades to the GA4 engine.
February 1960 ALSI-2 gets a facelift with a four round headlight conversion.
(Note: This is the first four round headlight car design in Japan)
May 1961 the Skyline Deluxe 1900 is released
April 1962 the Skyline Sport with the GB4 4cyl 1862cc OHV motor about 94hp
@4300rpm is released. (Note this vehicle was made in Italy by Michelotti for
Prince, all sixty produced were each handmade!)
2nd Generation (1963-1968)
September 1963 the S50 Skyline 1500 is released
March 1964 the S50D Skyline GT is released, about 100hp
May 1964 the Skyline GT is entered in international race scene and races
against the Porsche 904GTS and takes the lead for the first time in a race but
only for one lap
January 1965 the S54 Skyline 2000 GT is released
September 1965 the Skyline 2000 GT-A is released with a single carburetor setup. Also at this time the S54B
Skyline 2000 GT-B is released, running a 1986cc SOHC motor about 125hp
@5600rpm
August 1967 the 1500 series gets the G15 SOHC engine upgrade
3rd Generation (1968-1972)
July 1968 the C10 Skyline 1500, with the 1.5L OHV engine is released (Note
here Nissan starts to take over and merge with Prince Motor Co.)
September 1968 the 2000 GT with the L20 engine is released
February 1969 the First KPGC10 Skyline 2000 GT-R with the S20
6cyl DOHC 1989cc motor running about 160hp @7000rpm is released in four door!
May 1969 the Skyline GT-R makes it’s race debut in the JAF Grand Prix
October 1969 the 2000 GT gets a power up
October 1970 the 2 door hard top model is released also in GT-R format
March 1972 the Skyline GT-R racks up fifty overall wins!
May 1972 the 2000 GT and the GT-R changes from a 4 speed to a 5 speed
transmission
4th Generation (1972-1977)
September 1972 the C110 Skyline is released also with S20 6cyl DOHC Inline 6
1989cc engine running about 160hp @7000rpm
January 1973 the KPGC 110 Skyline GT-R 2dr hard top hit the market
May 1973 all production stops on the 4th Gen Skyline do to the Oil
Crisis and very strict emissions rules
September 1975 the Skyline 2000GTX-E Model with the L20E engine is re-released
for low emissions standers reasons
5th Generation (1977-1981)
August 1977 the C210 Skyline is released with the L20 inline 6 SHOC 1996cc
motor running about 130hp @6000rpm
August 1979 the C210 receives a facelift where the headlights change from
round to square
April 1980 the Skyline 2000 GT Turbo series is released with a L20E-T inline 6
SOHC 1996cc engine running about 145hp @5600rpm
6th Generation (1981-1985)
August 1981 the R30 Skyline is released
November 1981 the 2000 RS is released with the FJ20E 4cyl 16valve DOHC 1990cc
motor running about 150hp @6000rpm
May 1982 the racecar is produced for Group 5 regulation events
February 1983 the RS Turbo is released with the FJ20E-T 4cyl 16valve 1990cc
motor running about 190hp @6400rpm
February 1984 the RS TurboC with Intercooler is released
1986 the Group A championship is won by the Skyline
7th Generation (1985-1989)
August 1985 the R31 Skyline with the RB20DE motor is released
May 1986 the R31 Skyline GT-S 2door Turbo Intercooled with the inline 6 DOHC
1996cc RB20DET running about 210hp @6400rpm is released
August 1987 the R31 Skyline GTS-R Limited is released
8th Generation (1989-1993)
May 1989 the R32 Skyline GTS-t Type M is released
August 1989 the Skyline GT-R (4WD) legend is born with the RB26DETT
DOHC inline 62568cc powering away at 280hp @6800rpm
March 1990 the NISMO R32 is released. The
Skyline R32 wins its first Group A race!
July 1991 the Skyline GT-R N1 lightweight basic version is released
February 1993 the R32 V-Spec version is released with better brakes and
performance
9th Generation (1993-1998)
August 1993 the R33 Skyline GTS (4WD) with 2.5L RB25DET motor is released
February 1994 the R32 Skyline GT-R V-Spec II is released. Yes R32!
January 1995 the R33 Skyline GT-R is released with the RB26DETT motor
May 1995 the Skyline R33 LM limited version is released (Note: Extra carbon
fiber stuff included)
February 1997 the R33 headlights change to Xenon HID
10th Generation (1998-?
May 1998 the R34 Skyline GTS model is released
January 1999 the R34 Skyline GT-R is released also with the RB26DETT
motor (Note: This is the stiffest frame yet)
